Colin Cowherd expounds on why J. J. McCarthy will not be successful in NFL

Former Michigan Wolverines quarterback J. J. McCarthy is one of the top prospects in the 2024 NFL draft and his stock is rising ahead of the mega event in Detroit. But Colin Cowherd has his doubts.

Speaking on FS1, Colin Cowherd discussed the qualities of the top franchise quarterbacks who are successful in the NFL. He mentions that the probability of being a franchise QB comes from either elevating an average or weak college roster or being a Superman on a stacked roster.

Cowherd argues that McCarthy doesn't fit in either of those categories due to his lack of productivity and his failure to elevate the Wolverines.

"That's my issue... He had 25 total touchdowns last year, on a team that blew out a lot of people. He had one 300 yard game... He won a bunch of games. But he didn't elevate a team that had average players. And he didn't put up rip roaring crazy productive numbers, like all the other guys that are hits in the NFL."

He added,

"So his Michigan experience is not an NFL experience, where you will go to a crappy team in the top 10 and have to elevate an average roster. Or maybe you go to a stack roster on a great team in the NFL but that's very rare."

J. J. McCarthy could be replacing Daniel Jones in New York

Peter Schrager of the NFL Network, in his latest mock draft, has New York Giants trading up two spots to No. 4 with the Arizona Cardinals and landing J. J. McCarthy. Speaking with Colin Cowherd, Schrager pointed out one key reason why the Giants could replace Daniel Jones with McCarthy.

"Daniel Jones was not drafted by Joe Schoen. Was not drafted by Brian Daboll. He was given $80 million dollars by those guys, but that contract is also written in such a way where they can get out of it ater two years."

Schrager mentioned that the Giants brass had a "great meeting" with McCarthy in Ann Arbor before Easter and the quarterback has also met with them again.

There have been reports of New York Giants being "absolutely done" with Daniel Jones and having buyer's remorse over the $160,000,000 contract, which they had him a year ago.

The New York Giants currently have the No. 6 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
